NotyThickness: Measure Layer Thickness

Measure coating and layer thickness on calibrated cross-sections. Review boundaries, profiles and per-layer statistics with NotyThickness

The problem it solves

A single manual thickness value can hide local variation across a coating. Cross-section analysis needs reviewed interfaces, multiple sampling positions, and statistics in calibrated units.

Who it is for

  • Coating, metallography, PVD, CVD, and electroplating laboratories
  • Quality-control teams evaluating thickness uniformity
  • Materials researchers comparing layer growth or degradation

How it works

  1. Load a calibrated cross-section and prepare the image so layer interfaces are visible.
  2. Define and review the boundaries, then distribute measurement profiles across the representative region.
  3. Inspect each line and the per-layer statistics; correct boundaries before saving or exporting the result.

Output you can keep

Calibrated layer-thickness measurements with mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum, and saved analysis records where supported.

Limitations to check

  • Edge detection is sensitive to preparation artifacts, contrast, filters, and interface visibility.
  • Sampling lines must cover a representative region; more lines do not correct a biased field.
  • Automatically detected boundaries require visual verification before reporting.
