Prepare the cross-section
Use an image with visible layer interfaces and a known reference scale. Choose a region that answers the sampling question for the coating.
Measure and review
- Open the image and verify its calibration.
- Define the layer boundaries and inspect uncertain interfaces.
- Set the profile direction and sample several positions.
- Review intersections and correct boundary errors.
- Inspect per-layer mean, spread and range, then save the result.
Report enough context
Include the sampled region, profile direction and number of measurements with the thickness summary. Keep the annotated image so another reader can see what was measured.
