Estimate Crystallite Size with Scherrer

Estimate crystallite size from fitted XRD peaks using the Scherrer workflow. Review wavelength, peak widths and model assumptions in NotyPlot.

InputXRD peaks with known wavelength and appropriate peak-width information.
OutputScherrer crystallite-size estimates for reviewed peaks.

Workflow

  1. Import the pattern and confirm wavelength and units.
  2. Select suitable peaks and inspect their fits.
  3. Review broadening and Scherrer settings.
  4. Calculate and report the estimate with its assumptions.

What this workflow helps you do

Use suitable fitted diffraction peaks to estimate coherent crystallite size. Review the information required by the calculation and keep the chosen parameters with the reported estimate.

Before you accept the result

Check wavelength, broadening corrections and the selected shape factor. Crystallite size is a model-based estimate and need not equal particle size observed in microscopy.
