Task-focused Workflow

Create a Publication-Ready XRD Plot

Style, annotate and export an XRD pattern in NotyPlot with readable axes, sample labels and clearly identified diffraction features.

NotyPlot: Scientific Plotting & Peak Analysis XRD publication figure
Create an XRD figure
InputA checked XRD pattern or comparison with confirmed angle and intensity units.
OutputAn annotated XRD figure ready for final publication checks.

Workflow

  1. Open the checked XRD project or import the final dataset.
  2. Set the X-axis label and unit, suitable limits, intensity presentation and sample legend.
  3. Choose line styles and spacing that keep multiple patterns distinguishable.
  4. Add only reviewed peak labels, phase references or analysis annotations that are supported by the data.
  5. Preview the figure at final size and reduce annotation density if labels collide or obscure the pattern.
  6. Export in the required figure format and inspect the file before submission.

What this workflow helps you do

Turn a checked diffraction pattern or XRD comparison into a publication-ready figure without confusing display styling with analysis. The workflow focuses on readable 2θ axes, sample labels, reviewed peak annotations and export quality.

Use this workflow when

  • Preparing a single XRD pattern for a manuscript or thesis.
  • Formatting an overlay or stacked XRD comparison for publication.
  • Adding reviewed peak labels or other annotations after the underlying analysis has been checked.

What you need before you start

  • A verified XRD dataset or comparison with correct angle and intensity mapping.
  • Reviewed peak or analysis results if annotations will be shown.
  • The target figure dimensions and publication requirements.

Step-by-step workflow

What to review in the result

  • Peak labels correspond to reviewed features.
  • Offsets and normalization are clearly represented when multiple patterns are shown.
  • Axis labels, legend and annotations remain legible at final size.
  • The figure does not imply unsupported phase assignments or quantitative intensity comparisons.

Before you report or export

  • Keep the processing state used to generate the published figure.
  • Follow journal requirements for resolution, dimensions and fonts.
  • State normalization, offsets or background processing in the caption or methods where relevant.

Limitations and interpretation

  • Styling cannot resolve ambiguous phase assignments or poor peak fits.
  • Crowded labels can reduce clarity; not every detected peak needs to be annotated.
  • Relative intensities may depend strongly on acquisition and sample preparation conditions.
